LANDSCAPES AND CONTRASTS

In Gandia you could find a landscape rich of contrasts which is marked by a mild climate during all year long.
Wide and beautiful beaches are located in the north side of the city while not so far from it you have the chance to enjoy a charming mountain scenery: las Agrestes Montañas y Sierras, Barranc de l'Infern , the Circo de La Safor and particularly the Mondùver (841 m hight). Not to forget the fertility De Su Huerta which stretches till river Serpis banks.

SPORTS FOR EVERYBODY

Gandia offers a large and interesting sport selection for everybody, from water sports ( sail, windsurf, kite surf, sub) and activities related to mountain and nature ( speleology, touring by bicycle, mountain-bike, climb).
Moreover there are so many other sports you can practice, like swimming in indoor or outdoor pools, football , five-a-side football, basketball, and hockey. There's also an Olympic stadium and a pabellòn cubierto.
A typical sport of the area is "Joc de la Pilota" (la pelota). It's practiced on streets or in proper fields called "trinquetes". We suggest you to attend a game of this exciting sport. (see SPORT section).

TRADITIONAL FEASTS

Feasts represent an important moment of Safor community's life. They are celebrated in traditional ways we suggest you to attend in order to discover and enjoy real Spanish traditions and hospitality.
Most important feasts are the following ones:
FALLAS ( from March 16th to 19th)
THE HOLY WEEK or SEMANA SANTA: it has been declared as national tourist interest (March and April, it's the week before Easter)
SEAFARING FEAST to celebrate Virgin Carmen ( July 16th)
SAN JUAN NIGHT (June 24th)
GREAT GANDIA WEEK to celebrate St. Francesco from Borgia ( from September 29th to October 3rd)

CULTURE

Gandia has inherited the traditional culture which marked Borgia Court, Ausias March, Martorell or Corella.
In the present time, culture is boosting activities like "La Convocatoria" of literary prizes at Estiu University, the International Festival of Classic Music, art exhibitions and more.
Walking around Gandia is a good opportunity to visit several monuments which show the important historical hallmark of the city: the "Colegiata", St. Barbara Convent, Ducal Palace, St. Ana Ermita, the Town Hall and the Archaeological museum. ORIGINAL AND VARIOUS GASTRONOMY

Gandia gastronomy is strictly related to the Mediterranean environment which surrounds the area. In fact it offers natural ingredients for a tasty, rich and healthy cuisine.
A typical speciality is called "Fideuà": a sauce prepared with "capellini" pasta which are cooked in scampi broth, crayfish and frog fish. It is the main ingredient of the famous "Paella".
We hardly suggest you to try fresh fish and seafood fished on the coast, eels and the "gamba amb bleda" which is a speciality of villages located in the marsh. Not to forget famous sausages, several kind of risotto, "figatells" and " las coques de dacsa".
Safor area offers also rich and delicious sweets to remind the sugar cane growing.

Visiting the "La Llacuna", " Barranc de l'Infern" and "Racò de Duc"
For those who love mountain, we suggest to walk through the "Circo de la Safor", the "Sierras de Aitana y Mariola", the "Font Roja and the "Benicadell". You will have the chance to enjoy beautiful mountain environment so close to amazing beaches!
Oliva is a seaside resort which offers particular long beaches surrounded by orange groves. We suggest you to taste some of their specialities, like "arros amb costra" and the "espardenya".
Visiting the "Arciprestal de Santa Maria church" or the " Sant Roc" temple
Admiring the "Simat de Valldigna" monastery, Cistercian monument.
Visiting the cosy city of Xativa through museums, palaces and signory houses
Attending several typical festivals and feasts in the thirty villages of Safor community
Going to Androva to climb the Montduver (841 m) and admiring a spectacular view

Transport system (motorway, railway and overhead network)

Valencia and Alicante international airports (75 and 125 km from Gandia)
A-7 motorway (exits 60 and 61) linked to the European motorway network and N-332 which reach all the cities along the coast. C-32 joins Gandia with Albaida to Madrid direction.
Railway network to Valencia and Madrid.
Coaches and buses which connect important national and international cities.
